Análise das exportacoes brasileiras de café em face da taxa de cambio adversa, de 1994 a 1998

The 1990's decade was important for the Brazilian economy because of the economic opening and the Real Plan, which will always be seen as one of the most well elaborated economic plan in history. Trying to find economic stability, policies were necessary to influence the national productive chains. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the governmental interventions on the Brazilian exchange rates during the 1994-98 period on the Brazilian coffee exportations. Coffee was chosen for the study becasue of its historic importance. Associated with this, the fact that althought Brazil is the biggest world coffee producer it had not the necessay dynamic to attend efficiently the world green coffee market, in terms of quality, and, also, because of the competing difficulties to expand the industrialized product exportations. The results showed that the exchange rates were not adverse to the Brazilian green and soluble coffee exportations. This could not be concluded about the roaster coffee because of the discontinuity of the observed data.
