Supervivencia relativa de las razas II y XXII de Hemileia vastatrix :
In order to delect the capacity survival differences of races II (v5) and XXII (v5, 6) of Hemileia vastatrix Berk and Br., the latter of greater genotypical complexity, two trials were carried out in a common host plant, Caturra variety, under controlled conditions. In the first experiment, the races were individually inoculated on Caturra coffee plants and their aggressiveness was evaluated. In the second one, their competition capacity was determined inoculating Caturra coffee plants with urediniospore mixture (1:1) of both races. To compare the results obtained under controlled conditions with the relative survival under natural conditions, samples of urediniospores were collected on Caturra variety planted in three experimental plots. The rust sample of each plot was inoculated on differential hosts. Confidence intervals for the evaluated characteristics showed no statistical differences between the two races. When races were inoculated in mixture on Caturra, race XXII tended to diminish as the competition cycles increased. Reaction of the differential host coffee plants to inoculation with rust isolates collected on Caturra, showed the presence of more than one race and also that race XXII is not the predominant one in the population, and neither the more complex races are.
