Characterization and evaluation of wild coffee hybrids in New Caledonia :

Observations made by CIRAD from 1995 to 1998 on wild coffee hybrids between C. arabica and C. canephora in New Caledonia enabled their biological and agronomic evaluation. Agronomic assessment included growth, vegetative developments and leaf characterization, whilst biological observations concerned the level of ploidy, fertility and production potential. The hybrids nature of this planting material was confirmed and a preliminary classification established. The results obtained showed that the level of ploidy had a significant effect on most of te variables observed.
