Effect of moisture stress on nitrate reductase activity of coffee seedlings in relation to drought tolerance

Effect of moisture stress on nitrate reductase activity was studied in four coffee genotypes. Nitrate reductase activity decreased significantly under moisture stress and recovered after the alleviation of stress. Sln. 9 showed maximum enzyme stability and recovery than rest of the cultivars viz. Sln. 3,12 and 1 (R). Stability of nitrate reductase activity under moisture stress was positively correlated with enzyme recovery on subsequent irrigation. Maximum decrease of leaf water potential was observed in Sln. 1 (R) and least in Sln. 9 during water stress.
