High production technology for coffee in the Pulneys in Tamilnadu

In the present context of higher price for coffee in the internal as well as external market, a High Production Technology (HPT) for coffee in the Pulneys in Tamilnadu is described. Growing Cauvery at a spacing of 1.5 M x 1.5 M. (5' x 5') under open conditions with continuous water supply @ 2 litres per plant per day (excepting during the rainy days and 1 or 2 days after the rains) and 10 round of fertilizer @ 50 g 17:17:17 complex per plant supplemented by a 6 foliar feedings and 4 Bordeaux sprays, the yield would be easily over 1250 Kg clean coffee per acre. The expenditure works out to be around RS. 25,000/- per acre and the income generated around RS. 75,000/- per acre (Calculated @ Rs. 60 per Kg of Clean coffee). The cost : Benefit ration is 1:3 with a profit of Rs. 50.000/- per acre. The HPT successfully demonstrated over 4 seasons in a small plot at RCRS, Thandigudi, is recommended particularly for the small growers who have adequate water source
