Manejo integrado do bicho-mineiro, Perileucoptera coffeella (Guérin-Meneville) (Lepidoptera: Lyonetiidae), e seu reflexo na producao de café
The IPM principle was applied to control coffee leaf miner, when the insect population reached the threshold level, without interfering on the natural biological control. The experiment was carried out from 1987 to 1993 using coffee cv. Mundo Novo. Treatments consisted of soil application of aldicarb in February, aldicarb combinations with foliar spray of ethion and deltamethrin, and ethion and deltamethrin alone. Ethion and deltamethrin were sprayed when damage to leaves reached 30 per cent without wasps predation, detected by sampling every other week. Based on these surveys, it was necessary on foliar spray each year. Aldicarb and ethion were the most selective treatments for natural enemies. Deltamethrin, and combinations of deltamethrin or ethion with aldicarb were harmful to predator wasps (Vespidae). It was observed a 34.3 to 41.5 per cent yield reduction due to the coffee leaf miner. Aldicarb and mixtures of it with other products showed higher yield than foliar applications alone.
