La recherche sur cafeier arabica au Burundi

Agronomic research on Coffea arabica began in 1933 in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa. It has developped strongly in Burundi since 1979 with the establishment of a large research program. At present all of the coffee-producing regions of the country are integrated in a very diverse research activities which attempt to respond to all of the problems posed by Arabica coffee production in Burundi. With perennial crops, valid experimental results are not obtained until after many years of work, sometime more than twenty years of research. However, some research results have already been obtained in varietal selection, cultural techniques, fertilisation, crop production and the socio-economic study of smallfarmer coffee-producers.
