Heterospilus coffeicola Schmied. parasita da broca do café, Stephanoderes hampei (Ferr.)

The present paper represents a contribution to the biology of Heterospilus coffeicola Schmied., a hymenopterous parasite which feeds upon the eggs of Stephanoderes hampei. The feeding activities of this parasite are confined to those fruits in which primary infestation has occured. In fruits of secondary infestation by the coffee-berry-borer, Heterospilus coffeicola fails to develop. H. coffeicola can only survive in regions where coffee production occurs throughout the entier year. In order that this insect may become an effective agent in the control of the coffee-berry-borer in Brazil, it would be necessary to maintain permanent infestations of the borer in the open air. Such measures would not be conducive to its introduction in this country.
