Relación entre la esterilidad gamética y los mutantes angustifolia (ag) del café

Previous studies on the dose response curves of coffee seeds to neutrons and X or Gamma rays led to the assumption that the high frequency of ag mutants in the R1 generation was a result of "two-hit" chromosomal aberrations. If this assumption is correct, most of the ag mutants should be associated with gametic sterility. Lactophenol-anilin blue tests performed on some induced ag plants as well as on some non-ag plants grown from irradiated seed, showed a highly significant difference (P>0.01) in pollen sterility percent between these two groups of plants. The results also indicate that ag mutant production, as well as pollen sterility, are phenomena of the corpus layer in the irradiated growing point
