Coffee selection in the Netherlands Indies

Selection of coffee was started some twenty-five years ago. Planters had indeed made a few feeble efforts before that time to improve their crops by selecting what they considered to be the best planting material, but their methods were inefficient and it was only after the Department of Agriculture and the Experimental Stations had taken the matter in hand and based selection on scientific principles that the work was carried on in a manner which promised satisfactory results
