Obtention de souches de Coffea arabica mieux adaptees aux conditions ecologiques de basse altitude

The material studied was based on 60 forms collected from Ethiopia which differed more amongst each other than within each form. Some forms, when intercrossed, produced hybrids which showed heterosis. In the F2 and F3, individuals were isolated which performed well at Divo (200 m altitude). It is noted that some of the F3 trees were more vigorous than the best F2 and came into production earlier. It is suggested that such trees would be valuable in a breeding programme for the production of Arabusta material from crosses between C. arabica and C. canephora
