Quelques reflexions sur les possibilities d'amelioration genetique de la qualite des cafes

A survey is presented of some quality characters and the possibilities of improving them through breeding. The characters discussed include marketable yield (in the range 5-10 in Coffea liberica and 20-25 in C. arabica and C. canephora), 100-berry weight (4-5 g in C. eugenioides, 10-25 g in cultivars, with a narrow-sense heritability estimate of 0.36), and caffeine content (0.5-1.8 in C. arabica, 1.2-5.2 in C. canephora, and inherited quantitatively with additive effects)
