Breeding for stable resistance in tropical crops: strategies to maintain balanced pathosystems in modern agriculture :
Changes occurring in the host and pathogen balance when agriculture is modernized and crops grown in new areas, are discussed. It is suggested that adaptation should be through breeding programmes to reach adequate levels of horizontal resistance to all parasites. Special reference is made to coffee berry disease (caused by Colletotrichum coffeanum (Glomerella cingulata)) in Ethiopia
