Bilan des hybridations interspecifiques entre cafeiers africains diploides en collection en Cote d'Ivoire

A total of 39 F1 hybrids were obtained from 50 controlled crosses among 13 Coffea species, C. canephora was crossed successfully with all 12 of the other species and C. eugenioides with 10 others; C. brevipes was crossed successfully only with these two species. In the five species considered the most important for coffee breeding (C. canephora, C. congensis, C. eugenioides, C. liberica and C. dewevrei), all reciprocal crosses were successful, particularly between C. canephora and C. congensis. The hybrids from crosses between these two species had the highest proportion of PMCs with 11 bivalents, namely 74-90. Some hybrids, such as those between C. racemosa and C. canephora, were virtually sterile despite having up to 45 of PMCs with 11 bivalents
