Estimaçao dos componentes da variancia e do coeficiente de determinaçao genotipica da produçao de graos de café (Coffea arabica L.)

When 6 years' data on yield in 100 progenies of 5 varieties were examined, effects of biennial fluctuations in yield, which occur commonly in Brazilian coffee crops, could be minimized by grouping the data in pairs of years. This procedure exposed genetic variability which may be masked by the use of raw annual data. A simplified analysis of the biennial mens of plots is recommended for use in breeding. Components of variance and coefficients of heritability and of genotypic determination may also be derived from it. The Bourbon Vermelho progenies showed the greatest variability. It is concluded that, in progeny testing, data from 3 pairs of years should normally suffice for purposes of selection, though more would be preferable for forms with low genetic variability
