Melhoramento do cafeeiro, 40: Estudos de progenies e hibridos de café Catuai
Out of 64 progenies of Catuai Amarelo (Yellow Catuai) and Catuai Vermelho (Red Catuai), two were heterozygous for the Caturra dwarfing alleles (Ctct), all the rest being CtCt, but no apparent yield advantage attached to either variant. All the Catuai Amarelo lines possessed the xcxc alleles, while Catuai Vermelho lines (with red fruit) had XcXc. In three heterozygous lines. Xcxc conditioned orange fruits. In a few other varieties investigated, the same alleles controlled red or yellow fruit colour. The tendency to bear a large percentage of fruits with empty locules was characteristic of the Dd heterozygotes, while few such fruits were found on dd plants. Of the 64 progenies, 17 were Dd. Two Catuai X Mundo Novo (New World) F2 hybrids and four individuals resulting from back crossing to Mundo Novo were distinguished as valuable breeding material. A few Mundo Novo X Sao Bernardo F2 plants also showed promise
