Twenty-second, annual report 1968-69
Breeding of coffee was continued as in the previous years with the object of improving vigour, resistance to leaf rust (H. vastatrix), consistant high yields combined with good quality. The principal work in the division continued to be study of morphology of coffee collections in the gene-bank, crossbreds of arabica, robusta and `Devamachy' hybrids, cytogenetical studies of robusta-arabica hybrids and diploid species hybrids, testing of material in the gene-bank and breeding plots for resistance to races of leaf rust, varietal trials at the two stations, coffee demonstration farms and private estates and vegetative propagation
