Kenya home-use coal from coffee waste
Research begun in the 1970's by the Kenya Planters'Co-operative Union Ltd. (KPCU) into uses for waste coffee husks from its coffee mills resulted in the development of charcoal briquettes, known as Kahawa Coal. The briquettes were used locally as a substitute for firewood and woodcharcoal and small quantities had been exported to the Middle East and Europe. (ICO. Library Monthly Entries (no.105) p. 9. 1987)
