Copper levels in soils and coffee plant materials in Kenya, 2

Copper was determined in soil and coffee plant materials from Meru, Bungoma and Kisii in Kenya. Soil samples were analysed for extractable (EDTA) and total copper. While EDTA extractable (available) copper ranged from 1.0 to 146.0 ugg-1 and 1.0 to 170.0 for top-soils and sub-soils respectively, the total copper ranged from 1.0 to 370 ug/g for top-soils and 1.0 to 240.0 ugg-1 for sub-soils. Copper concentration in branches ranged from 12.0 to 158.0 ugg-1 while it ranged from 8.0 to 98.0 ugg-1 for the leaves. The levels of copper detected in this study areas are low and could not be regarded as detrimental to the growth of coffee
