Efficacy of reduced rates of copper formulations against coffee leaf rust in Kenya :
A dosage trial involving two copper oxychlorides (Cobox and Funguran, 50 WP) and a proprietory pre-mixed Copper Sulphate and lime (Procida Bordeaux Mixture, 25 WP) was carried out at Azania and Murera Coffee Estates, during 1983/84 and 1984/85 cropping seasons. The rates tested were 0.7, 0.5 and 0.35 for the Copper oxychlorides and 1.0, 0.7 and 0.5 for Procida Bordeaux Mixture. All the application rates of the various copper formulations effectively controlled leaf rust when the sprays started before the onset of Short Rains. These appeared to be no yield benefits derived from the control of Coffee leaf rust. The probable reasons for this are discussed. The lower rates of the Copper oxychloride (0.35 and Procida Bordeaux Mixture (0.5) have been recommended for coffee leaf rust control in Kenya
