Study of rainfall in coffee belt of South India, 1: Rainfall pattern

Rainfall data collected from 13 coffee districts of South India was analysed statistically. The study revealed that the entire coffee area could be broadly grouped into 4 categories of rainfall pattern. Differences in rainfall due to years and locations were not statistically significant. Those due to months and months x years were highly significant. This indicated that differences in the mean annual rainfall were small. Differences in the amount of rain received during various months of the year were very large. Quantum of rain received during any particular month was not uniform during different years. Therefore, while annual rainfall was predictable, monthly rainfall was not
