Effect of auxins on flower formation in coffee (Coffea arabica L.)

Young decapited plants, cv. Caturra K.M., with 2 plagiotropic branches, were sprayed with IAA at 200 p.p.m. or 2,4-D at 50 or 100 p.p.m. Both auxins, and especially 2,4-D, retarded flower formation. The effect of 2,4-D when applied to only one of the plagiotropic branches was observed only in that branch. The auxins seemed to act directly by affecting flower formation and not indirectly by inducing endogenous ethylene production. (Hort. Abst. 57(4):3033. 1987)
