Results of field experiments Ruiru, 3: Effects of N,P and K fertilizers on Coffea arabica L yields quality and their residual effects on dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) yields in Kenya

Application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash fertilizers were tested on Arabica coffee yield and quality at Ruiru, Kenya. Their interaction and residual effects on dry beans yield were also assessed. Application of high rates on nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers increased clean coffee yields which were significant in case of nitrogen, while potassium fertilizer had a negative effect. A significant triple interaction between N, P and K was noted. The treatments did not show appreciable effect on the proportions of grade "A" sized coffee beans nor liquor quality. A highly significant response to the residual phosphate fertilizer on dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) yields were recorded. The implications of the results are discussed
