The costs of establishing various coffee densities in Kenya

The paper discussed the operations carried out in coffee establishment and field maintenance for a period of one year. The costs of both labour and material inputs are presented and their implications discussed. Calculations are presented to show the current cost of establishment up to the third year and the yield required to cover various costs at the present coffee price. Intensive planting is the best method of recovering the investment costs and irrigation increases the net benefits. It is concluded that coffee farming is a viable enterprise and the cost of establishing coffee is directly proportional to the number of trees planted per unit area
