1974 trials with new and recommended fungicides, 1: Coffee berry disease

During the 1973/74 field trials, the new fungicides, LS 72-1828, DXF 162, R-18531 and BAS 31910F gave disappointing results. Consequently BAS 31910F and DXF 162 were withdrawn from further field test. Although LS 72-1828 and R-18531 were recommended for further field trials, during the 1974/75 period, the application rate of LS 72-1828 was to be raised from 0.2 to 0.3 and R-18531 (50 W.P.), an Imaxilnitrate was to be substituted with R-23979 (20E.C.), an Imazil-base. Long term evaluation of systemic fungicides, Folcidin, Bavistin and Derosal has shown that repeated and exclusive use of these systemic fungicides at Yara Estate, Upper Kiambu, resulted in the emergence of strains of CBD fungus resistant against these products. Resistance of CBD fungus to the above products has been shown to result in high CBD incidence leading to very low yields of clean coffee/ha
