Field trials with fungicides for CBD control 1970-71

The 1971 CBD trials presented further proof of the efficacy of newly recommended fungicides Delan and Topsin, both of which were not then available to farmers. Their performance at lower rates than those recommended provided useful information to be borne in mind when they are generally available. Topsin as such is not expected to come on the market but Topsin "M", slightly better in respect to CBD control, may become available during the next 18 months. A lack of persistence on the part of thiabendazole was noted and subsequent experiments are under way with Tecto 40 Flowable, which it is hoped will not suffer from this defect. The failure of triphenyl tin compounds to control the disease has led to the decision that none of these can be recommended for use against CBD. Previous CBD recommendations for Du-Ter have been withdrawn but those for Leaf Rust and Giant Looper control remain
