Resumen de la difusión mundial de la roya del café :
Coffee rust, Hemileia vastatrix, had been known on wild coffee in Africa since prehistoric times, but was not on commercial plantations anywhere. It was first found on cultivated trees in Ceylan in 1867-68; in two years it was in India, and moving further. This is shown in a table of main dates of observed spread of the rus. By 1890 it has swept over thousands of miles in the easter tropics and by 1960s no importante coffee country in the eastern hemisphere was rust free. However, there was no rust in the Americas. Meanwhile, 1890-1966, rust disease was intensifying in west Africa. It finally moved across the strip of ocean between west Africa and east Brazil and was identified on coffee in the State of Bahia in 1970. Since then it has gone into all coffee producing parts of Brazil, is also in Paraguay. Without a doubt more spread is to be expected on both hemispheres.
