Studies on leaf growth, 4: Influence of environmental factors on leaf growth in Arabica coffee

Under field conditions, it was observed that new leaves continuously form from March-April (after the receipt of blossom showers in summer months) to November-December on arabica coffee variety S. 795 plants. Extension growth was found to cease from December onwards. Leaves initiated during September when atmospheric temperature was 25.8ðC. were more, and had the maximum area, and those initiated during November when the atmospheric temperature was 28.4ð C were less, and had the minimum area. The influence of environmental factors such as atmospheric temperature, duration of sunshine, atmospheric relative humidity as also the amount of rainfall on initiation of leaves and leaf area is discussed
