Studies on cuticle of coffee plant, 1: Isolation of cuticular membranes from leaves

An accurate technique for isolation of cuticular membranes from the leaves of coffee plants is described. Significant (at 1) differences in cuticle thickness (in terms of weight) were observed between the four varieties (arabica coffee `Kents', S.795 and Bourbon, and Hibrido-de-Timor) studied. The mean cuticle thickness of the varieties ranged from 0.27 to 0.47 mg/cm2. Irrespective of the varieties the adaxial layer was found to be much thicker than the abaxial layer
