Crop-weed competition in coffee: dry matter production and nutrient composition of weeds

An investigation to assess the nutrient composition and dry matter production of weeds growing in robusta (Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner) block showed that the loss in terms of dry matter was around 1.3 tonnes and the weeds took up 30 kg nitrogen, 2.2 kg phosphorus and 50 kg potassium per hectare. The role of such experiments in envisaging a better programme of weed control is discussed
