Training of Arabica coffee cyclic system of multiple stem
The system of raising arabica coffee on multiple stems is being practised on a commercial scale in countries like Kenya and Tanganyika. The advantage claimed in this system is the ease of pruning, that is, training the cropping branches. In our country also, multiple stem on arabica coffee has been experimented upon at CCRI with not very encouraging results. Over a period of years the crop levels on the single stem and the multiple stem systems have been equal without any superiority of one over the other. Even so, the multiple stem training might lead one to utilise the advantages of the system under certain cultivation practices. An attempt is made to describe utilisation of this system in closely planted arabica coffee under replanting programme
