Fusarium solani associated with a wilt of coffee arabica in Kenya

On coffee states at Mweiga, Songhor, Kisii and Ol Doinyo Sabuk death of a number of trees was found to be associated with Fusarium solani. In all cases adverse environmental conditions had been experienced in these areas some time prior to the death of the trees, which was first noticed as a loss of turgor. The wilt sypmptoms become more severe, resulting in death of all heads, and at this stage sectioning of the stumps at soil level revealed a purple stain in the wood. A description of the fungus and methods of isolation are given and the similarity of this disease with wilts in other species caused by F. solani is discussed
