Integrated control of the coffee mealybugs and scales forming moulds
Lists pesticides for use in controlling the following coffee pests in Kenya: Kenia mealybugs (Planococcus kenyae); root mealybug (Planococcus citri), green scale (Coccus alpinus de Lotto); brown scale (Saissetia coffeae Walk) and white waxy scale (Ceroplastes brevicauda). Pesticides for use on coffee estates and smallholdings include Supracide, Ethion, Dursban and Decis. Application of these pesticides eliminates ants from the treated area; once the ants have been eliminated, ladybird beetles and parasites readily prey upon and parasitise the scales and mealybugs. Besides ant control, Supracide, Ethion, Dursban, Decis and Inacide may be used to control white borers (Anthores leuconotus Pase) and termites that damage coffee stems
