El artículo analiza ciertas condiciones que deben cumplir las especies utilizadas como sombrío transitorio como: ser de crecimiento rápido, proporcionar algún producto útil al cultivador y tener aptitud para conservar y aún mejorar el suelo. Sugiere algunas especies, como maíz, yuca, higuerilla, guandul, soya y otras.
