Aspectos da distribuicao da producao e área de cacau do Estado da Bahía

From a list of cocoa farms of the Bahian cocoa region, prepared in 1979 by the Department of Extension (DEPEX of the Executive Comission of Plan of Cocoa Crop (CEPLAC), various agricultural statistics are given including, cropped area, production and productivity at the DEPEX's administrative area levels as well as at the municipality level. In terms of production 78,6 per cent of the farms produced under 22,500 kg of cacao and in terms of area of productive trees 76 per cent of farms had less than 30 ha. Productivity and production increased together from yield level No. 1 to No. 7 and ranged from 413 to 755 kilograms per hectare. Of total production the "buraras" and small farms contributed 36 per cent. Subregion No. 6 had the largest and Subregion No. 4 the lowest production. Subregion No. 6 had the largest area under cultivation. The local offices of DEPEX and countries that had the biggest and lowest cocoa production were identified as well as areas in production, areas with growing trees, productivity, number of farms and recent expansion of agricultural frontier.
