Renovacao de cacauais; onze anos de observacao da Fazenda Unitária do Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau, Bahia

The renovation of cacao at the Cacao Research Center (CEPEC), Bahia was examined for its economic and social aspects. The economic evaluation used two types of methods: the first used the typical year (break-even point) and, the second considered the evolution of capital in time, with Present (Discounted) Value, Benefit/Cost Ratio and Internal Rate of Return as criteria. Two different methods of renewal were studied for eleven years in five renovated areas. The outcome in each block reflects the contribution of the three major factors of agricultural production - genetics, environment and management. The results of the blocks were analysed according to the criteria; neither method was indicated as superior. The social analysis was based on the use of manpower as well as the maintenance of the areas. From these bases useful coefficients were drawn for the planning and administration of the production in a cacao plantation.
