Obtencao, em meio de cultura, de propágulos de Verticillium dahliae Kleb., causador da murcha de-verticillium em cacaueiro (Theobroma cacao L.)

The fungus Verticillium dahliae was isolated from cacao branches on PDA and allowed to grow during 15 days. After that, 7 mm discs bearing micelium were transfered to Petri dishes the same medium. Some of these (15 dishes) were incubated at 21 grade centigrade, 10 cm under continuous light and others 15 were wraped in aluminium foil to remain in total darkness. Colonies diameter, conidial and microsclerotia production were measured 15 days later. Plates kept in the light developed colonies 7.9 cm broad and produced 5 x 10 exponent 7 conidia/ml; plates kept in the dark developed colonies 5.5 cm broad and produced 1.2 x 10 exponent 4 microsclerotia/ml. From these data it can be concluded that isolates of V. dahliae from cacao may be induced to produce either conidia or microsclerotia and conidia on the same medium, depending on the light regimen.
