De wereld van de Cacao
The subjects of this report are the production, trade and consumption of cocoa. There's a central role for the price as the result of the structure of the market and the behaviour of its participants. In this market traders and consumers have a much stronger position than producers. The price has been fluctuating heavily throughout the years. Influencing factors to these fluctuations are treated separately. Recently prices are at a very low level mainly because of the large supply, the huge stocks and the steadily growing demand. Attention is also paid to the policies of producing and consuming countries in trying to get more influence on the prices. These attempts don't seem to have much success and the agreements have not been able to stabilize prices at the level aimed at. Part II of the report covers the situation of cocoa-industry in the Netherlands and the significance of the Netherlands in the international markets of cocoa and cocoa products.
