Efeitos de práticas culturais sobre a producao de cacaueiros em várzea amazónica

The influence of such cultivating practices as clump thinning, maintenance pruning and elimination of excessive shading on the production of the subspontaneous cacao tree in the higher lowlands on the margin of the Amazon River in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, was measured. At the same time, the influence of rainfall and the water table level were to be related to the physiological processes of leaf fall and flushing of the trees. The results show that leaf fall and flushing reach a peak in August when the flooding subsides, uncovering the lowlands. There was an 83 percent increase in production due to the cultural practices.
