Some aspects of biological statistics of Planococcoides njalensis Laing (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae) reared on cocoa seedlings

Using cocoa seedlings as a substrate, populations of Planococcoides njalensis were studied from birth until death of the cohort and from this a life table was constructed. The mean preproductive period was 31 days and the mean reproductive period was 25.67 days. Mean fecundity was 92.70, gross reproductive rate 69.34 and the net reproductive rate 2.03 nymphs/female/generation. The generation time was 28.28 days and the instantaneous birth and death rates were 0.034 and 0.003 a day, respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase was 0.031 nymphs/female/day giving a doubling time of 21.98 days.
