Compatibility of Moniliophthora roreri isolates from different countries

Isolates of Moniliophthora roreri from Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica were compared for their compatibility behaviour. Monosporic cultures of these isolates were grown on V-8 juice-Difco agar (10 & 1.5 percent; pH 6.0) in all possible combinations in Petri plates, kept in plastic bags and incubated at 25 grade centigrade under dark conditions for 30 days. On this medium, the fungus grew faster presenting white mycelium only. Isolates of M. roreri from Costa Rica were incompatible with those from Ecuador and Colombia, whereas the last two were compatible between them. The reaction of incompatibility was expressed by forming a clear cut separation between two colonies of different isolates, whereas in the case of compatibility the mycelium of two colonies intercrossed. On the other hand, isolates from Costa Rica were morphologically and physiologically different from those of Colombia and Ecuador.
