Primera ocorrencia de vassoura-de-bruxa na principal regiao produtora de cacau do Brasil

Cocoa was first introduced into the state of Bahia from the Amazon region in 1746, where today 84.5 percent of Brazilian cocoa is grown. The pathogen of cocoa Crinipellis perniciosa, although responsible for severe crop losses in all cocoa producing countries of South and Central America, was absent in this region of Brazil. This is the first record of the occurrence of witches' broom disease in Bahia, the second largest concentration of cocoa in the world.
