Características dos calcários agrícolas do sul da Bahía

The quality of lime used in the Cacao Region of Southern Bahia was evaluated with respect to its chemical and physical characteristics, relative efficiency and relative neutralizing capacity. In 64 percent of the 154 samples analysed, the Mg0 content ranged between 15 and 25 percent whereas Ca0 values between 25 and 41 percent were found in 85 percent of the samples. Relative efficiency of 16 samples collected from "stone breakers" and from the warehouse of CEPLAC ranged from 81 to 95 percent, with a mean value of 89 percent. The relative neutralizing capacity values of the same samples varied between 85 and 101 percent, with a mean value of 92 percent. Wide variation was observed in the microelement content of the 16 samples analysed. The variations were as follows: 6 to 15 ppm for Zn, 755 to 2033 ppm for Fe and 52 to 66 ppm for Mn. The Cu content remained constant at 8 ppm.
