Structures agraires et evolution des milieux ruraux le cas de la région cacaoyere du centre-sud Cameroun

At the beginning of the XXth. century, the populations of the Mid-South province were stillmigrating towards the sea. What finally fixed them to the land was not so much the colonizer as the cocoa-tree, which has gradually led to private ownership of the land on which it was planted. The system of land tenure, which was formerly adapted to a system of migrations, has envolved rapidly, but is still as yet opposed to the creation of large plantations. In the areas where land is exposed to strong pressure, the system of land use is also undergoing transformation. Finally, this evolution is accompanied by a good deal of townward migration. The aim of this article is to study the consequences social evolution has had on land tenure, then those that changes in the system of land tenure has had on rural society.
