Theobroma grandiflorum (Spreng.) Schum. as source of inoculum of witch-broom disease of Theobroma cacao L.
Inoculations were made to ascertain whether the witch-broom diseases of cacao (Theobroma cacao) and of cupuacu (T. grandiflorum) are caused by the same race or races cause infection on both cacao and cupuacu in this area. Therefore it is not advisable to allow cupuacu trees to stand in the field near cacao plantations as often occurs. Cupuacu is used in different ways in the refreshment and canned fruit industries in the State of Para, Brazil.
