Avaliacao do potencial de producao do cacaueiro com base no acúmulo de matéria seca de plantas

Early accumulation of dry matter in the initial stages of development and its possible correlation with production of mature trees was evaluated for 10 cacao hybrids. Samples of plant material were collected every 15 days. The first harvest was taken 15 days after seedling emergence. The total number of samplings was 17. There was an intercross variation in the dry matter accumulation of the whole plant and of the separated plant parts for the various hybrids studied. The hybrids Pa 150 x ICS1, Pa 150 x Ma 15, and SIC 864 x UF 613 accumulated higher amounts of dry matter compared to SIC 5 x UF 613, SIC 5 x ICS 1, and SIC 2 x ICS 1. The results show that leaf dry weight contributed more to the increase of total dry matter than any other plant part throughout the experimental period.
