Aplicación del diagnóstico foliar en la evaluación de la condición nutricional de plantaciones comerciales de café y cacao

Two fertilizer trials on coffee and one on cacao were conducted for several years in the Quevedo region of the tropical lowlands of Ecuador. Coffee and cacao yields were recorded and leaf samples analyzed to diagnose the nutritional status of these two crops in commercial plantations. Results showed a marked effect of nitrogen on yield and leaf nitrogen content, but no effect of phosphorus and/or potassium on these two parameters. For nitrogen, leaf standards for high and low production were determined, whereas in the case of phosphorus and potassium, only standards for high production were possible. In the second phase of this study, chemical analyses of leaf samples obtained from commercial plantations were compared with the above standards and conclusions about the nutritional status of these plantations are made
