Avaliacao de inseticidas no combate ao tripes do cacaueiro (Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Giard) na Bahía

Emulsions of lindane, malathion, phosalone, fenitrothion and diazinon compared with BHC dust were applied at the rate of 240g a.i./ha, to control cocoa thrips Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Giard) a major cocoa pest in Bahia, Brazil. In a second trial, commercial formulations of BHC 1.5 per cent, BHC 2 per cent, carbaryl 7.5 per cent, malathion 4 per cent, methyl parathion 1.5 per cent and fenitrothion 1.5 per cent were applied at the rate of 16 kg/ha. Results showed that lindane, BHC 1.5 per cent, BHC 2 per cent and carbaryl 7.5 per cent were the most efficient with a persistence as long as 21 days. There was a small decline in toxicity after the second week following application. Both the dust and liquid formulations of malathion and fenitrothion and the dust formulation of methyl parathion were highly efficient for the first 24 hours following application, but effectiveness decreased rapidy thereafter
