Influencia dos horizontes do solo no desenvolvimento de plántulas de cacau (Theobroma cacao L.)

The present work was carried out to determine the influence of soil horizons "A" and "B" upon growth of cacao seedlings under greenhouse conditions. "Catongo" seedlings variety were used in a randon block design with five replicates. Two experiments were performed in which soil horizons were combined in order to form hypothetical profiles of various thickness and fertility. It was concluded that subjacent horizon - regardless its fertility - affects seedling growth particulary when it is closer to the soil surface. The data also demonstrate the importance of the depth of superficial soil layers (10 - 20cm) on seedlings growth
