Virulence of some selected isolates of Phytophthora palmivora in cacao

The degree of virulence of 22 isolates of Phytophthora palmivora collected from nine differents localities of the Cacao Growing Region of Bahia, Brazil, was assessed on four differential clones of Theobroma cacao L. in order to group the isolates according to their levels of virulence. Results of lesion size produced in pods by different isolates showed significant differences between both isolated and clones and support the conclusion that the isolates highly differ in their degree of virulence. To obtain adequate levels of resistance in cacao
